The Psychology of Gifting: Why Do We Give Gifts?

Giving a gift is a small reflection of feelings we can't express in words. Sometimes it's a thank you, sometimes it's a sincere "I'm with you."

When I was imagining Atelier Simi, I always had this in mind: Every object should touch someone's heart. A handmade amulet or a cup shouldn't be a single object, but rather a meaning that embodies time, effort, and love.

Why Does Giving Gifts Make Someone So Happy?

Perhaps when we give a gift, we're secretly saying, "I made time for you; I care about you." This makes not only the recipient happy, but also the giver. In fact, scientifically, dopamine and oxytocin, along with a host of other happiness hormones, are activated.

But the best part isn't the math, but the emotion. A gift given without expectation, with the sole intention of making someone happy, creates a genuine, reciprocal bond. That's exactly what it's all about, I think: connecting.

Handmade Gifts Have a Whole Different Spirit

Everything is so fast these days. Everything arrives with just a click. But when you hold something handmade, you feel the effort, the time, the love. And each one is unique. Just like your mother.
That's why I think handmade Mother's Day gifts are so much more meaningful. Every amulet or mug we make in the workshop is so much more than just a mere object. It carries a message: "You are special. I thought about you, I worked for you."

If you are wondering what gift to buy for your mother…

If you're looking to get your mom something this Mother's Day, choose a detail that will make her smile.

Maybe a tiny, handmade amulet will become a keepsake that will make people say, "My daughter bought this for me," even years from now. Or perhaps the pleasure of morning coffee in the cup you chose will be even more special.

Give a Gift, Create Meaning

I think the essence of gift giving is not that it is expensive, but that it carries meaning.
With something handmade, you are not just giving a product, you are giving a heartfelt feeling.
If you want to give your mother a small but heartfelt gift this Mother's Day, maybe that gift is already waiting for you.

Happy Mother's Day to all our mothers.

To my mother with love and longing...
